welcome to the free mac classroom

the top source of free apps for the Mac for homes, schools and businesses.

thefreemacblog

With so many excellent free apps around, it still amazes me how much money we spend on software licences in schools.

There is still an expectation that we teach high school age kids “industry standard” apps and yet, by the time they leave school the industry standard has changed.

With a Mac, iLife and iWork, kids can produce excellent work and combined with a careful selection of open source apps, the whole curriculum can be covered.

I hope you find some of the apps on this site useful for your school. Please let me know if you do and share your success stories with us. They might even make it to the front page.

The Ultimate Mac Shortcuts Guide

Well, after a brief hiatus, thefreemac is back up and running with regular updates of free stuff for your Macs like the great free font site >>here<<.

I have put the educational, science and programming apps on one page to simplify things a bit.  Regular apps can also be found on the toolbar at the top.
